Replacement of wheels

At replacement of wheels it is inexpedient to change the direction of rotation of tires. For some tires the direction of rotation is specified by an arrow on lateral face and it should be observed surely.

It is recommended to replace each 10 000 km forward wheels back. Thanks to it, all 4 wheels will have identical service life and identical wear.

To tighten wheel bolts only a dinamometrichesky key. Their identical inhaling is thus provided.

To replace tires not separately, and, at least, on one axis. Thus tires with bigger depth of a profile to mount behind.


At replacement and dismantle of tubeless tires it is for safety reasons obligatory to replace the rubber gate.

Possible rust on a surface of a prileganiye of a rim delete with a wire brush. For protection of a wheel against corrosion at each dismantle slightly grease with bearing greasing a place of landing of a disk wheel on a nave in front and behind.

1. Wring out a wheel cap a screw-driver or remove hands, depending on a design.
2. Before removal mark chalk or a felt-tip pen the provision of a wheel concerning a nave that at repeated installation to establish a wheel in its situation.
3. Ободья from light metals are protected from corrosion by a transparent varnish covering. At replacement of a wheel try not to damage it, in case of need improve a covering.


Bolts 1 (length of L = 40 mm, To = 13, 5 mm) are intended only for disk wheels from light metal, bolts 2 (length of L = 21 mm, To = 10, 5 mm) are used only for steel disk wheels. If are in addition mounted ободья from light metal, and as a spare wheel the steel disk wheel is delivered, it is recommended to have in a tool kit the corresponding bolts to a spare wheel.

4. Clear the polluted carving a wire brush. Do not oil bolts and greasing.
5. Before installation of a disk wheel from light metal twist in the top carving opening the assembly plug which is applied to a spare wheel.
6. Fix wheel bolts cross-wise in some calling.


At unilateral or insufficiently strong tightening of bolts the wheel or a nave can be drawn.

7. Inhaling moment: 110 N of m for ободьев from steel and light metals.
8. Again put on a wheel cap. At installation so put on a cover that the gate entered into the cut provided for it more strongly. Steel ободья should be used only with the mounted wheel caps to avoid damage of gates of tires.
9. At new wheels tighten wheel bolts approximately through 100-500 km of a way with the moment of 110 N of m.

Antisliding chains

Use of chains of antisliding is allowed only on a back axis. Before installation of chains of antisliding to remove wheel caps. To use only the chains of antisliding resolved by Mercedes firm.

For cars with antiprobuksovochny system ASR the switch of chains of antisliding is used. At adjustment of height of the car to establish the car on the highest road clearance. To go with antisliding chains with a speed no more than 50 km/h. On the snow-covered and free highway from ice to remove antisliding chains.

Care of tires

It is known that tires have so-called "memory", and their unqualified use, for example, fast or frequent moving through stone borders or edges of rails, is quite often shown much later as their damage.

Cleaning of tires

Whenever possible do not clear the tire a vapor jet from the steam-ejecting pump. If a nozzle of the steam-ejecting pump too closely to hold at a tire surface, within several seconds there is a chaotic parabolic destruction of a rubber layer. Storage of tires

Tires should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place. They should not contact to oil and greasing.

To store tires in lying situation or put on a rim in garage or a cellar.

Before dismantling wheels, slightly increase pressure of air in tires (about 0,3-0,5 bar).

For winter tires use their own ободья since reinstallation of tires on others ободья is connected with additional expenses.

Running in of tires

New tires have especially slippery surface. Therefore new tires are concerns also new spare wheel - it is necessary to roll. At such running in the surface of tires becomes rough as a result of initial wear. The first 300 km it is necessary to go with new tires especially carefully, especially to crude weather.

Wheels – balancing

At each reinstallation of tires of a wheel it is necessary again отбалансировать to compensate various distribution of weight and unevenness of a material.

In the course of driving the imbalance is shown by vibration and rumble. The steering wheel starts then to shiver small.

As a rule, vibration of a steering wheel is shown only in a certain range of speeds and disappears when switching on lower or high transfers.

The such phenomenon of a disbalansirovka can lead over time to damage of axial joints, the mechanism of a steering and shock-absorbers. Surely balance wheels each 20 000 km and after each repair of tires as in the course of wear and repair of tires weight and material distribution changes.

Wrong wear of tires

On forward wheels a little bigger wear of shoulders of tires in comparison with the protector middle – the normal phenomenon. And as a result of a road inclination wear of shoulders of the tires directed to the middle of the road, is expressed much more distinctly (the left wheel: outside, right wheel: inside).

Non-uniform wear usually arises because of too low or too high pressure of air in tires, but can be also caused by the wrong installation of wheels or their imbalance, and also malfunction of the shock-absorber or a rim.

First of all pay attention to appropriate pressure of air in the tires, thus not less often than each four weeks supervise their condition.

To supervise pressure of air only on cold tires. Pressure of tires raises with their heating at fast driving. However it is not necessary to lower air from warm tires.

At too high pressure of air in tires the protector middle since thus as a result of high internal pressure the tire is more curved on the protector middle more wears out.

At too low pressure of air in tires the protector wears out on tire shoulders more, and the middle of a protector becomes convex inside. Bigger wear of shoulders of tires as a result takes place.

The wrong installation of wheels and their imbalance give a typical picture of wear of tires.
