14.1.7.3. Self-category of the storage battery

GENERAL INFORMATION

Depending on car equipment the natural category of the storage battery is promoted by current consumption by various control systems even in that case when the engine does not work. Therefore at the standing car it is necessary to recharge the storage battery every four weeks. If the suspicion in stock leak currents on surfaces of insulators is available, check an electric onboard network.

To check apply the charged storage battery.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect from the battery plug a weight wire (–).
Prevention

All saved-up data in electronic memories, as, for example, an anticreeping code of radio are thus erased. Before shutdown of the storage battery it is necessary to read also the recommendations provided in subsection 14.1.7.


2. Establish on the ampermeter (a measurement range from 0–5 мА to 5 And) the maximum limits of measurement. The ampermeter turn on between a negative pole of the battery and a wire connecting its pole to the case of the car.

Prevention

Check can be carried out as well by means of a control bulb. But if the bulb does not light up at its inclusion between a flexible crossing point and a negative pole of the storage battery, in any case it is necessary to use the ampermeter.


3. Disconnect all consumers of a current, disconnect from plugs an electronic clock (the constant consumer of a current), close doors.
4. Switching ampermeter ranges, define current size.
5. Removing safety locks, consistently disconnect various electric chains. If in one of the broken-off chains the zero, here is displayed and it is necessary to look for a malfunction source. The correlated or polluted contacts through wiped wires, internal short circuit in units can be defects.
6. If in the electric chains protected by fuses, it is not revealed defects, it is necessary to pull together tips of wires from the units which have not been protected by fuses. Those are: ignition system, generator and starter.
7. If at a detachment from plugs of one of unprotected by fuses of units indication comes back to zero, repair or replace the corresponding detail. At detection of leakage of a current in a starter or in ignition system, first of all check the ignition switch according to the schematic diagram of electric equipment.
8. Connect to the accumulator plug a weight wire (–).
9. Establish time, and also enter an anticreeping code for radio.
